Creativity with Heart: How Our Yarnbombs Give Back to the Community

At Oh Happy Creative, creativity has always been about more than making something beautiful. It’s about bringing people together, sharing skills, and spreading a little joy along the way. One of the ways we love to do this is through our Yarnbombs – colourful community projects that turn creativity into kindness.

Our most recent Yarnbomb was one of our favourites yet. We invited our wonderful community of knitters and crocheters to help us create something a little special: handmade apples. Using yarn, hooks, needles and plenty of imagination, our community crafted over a hundred bright, cheerful apples ready for their big moment.

Once they were finished, we took them to Leigh Library Gardens and transformed a tree into a joyful display of handmade creativity. The branches were filled with knitted and crocheted apples, creating a colourful surprise for everyone passing through the gardens.

But these apples weren’t just for looking at.

We invited the local community to pick an apple and make a donation to Alfie’s A Team, turning a simple act into something meaningful. Families, walkers, library visitors and curious passers-by stopped to take part. Each apple taken represented a small act of kindness – and together those small acts added up to something truly wonderful.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over £600 for Alfie’s A Team Charity.

What started as a simple creative idea became a beautiful example of what can happen when people come together. A group of knitters and crocheters sharing their time, a colourful tree that made people smile, and a community willing to give back.

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do at Oh Happy Creative. Our workshops may be about painting, printing, journaling, and crafting, but at the heart of it all is connection. Creativity has an incredible way of bringing people together and, sometimes, it can even make a real difference.

We’re so grateful to everyone who knitted, crocheted, donated, shared the project, or simply stopped to enjoy the display. Your creativity and kindness helped turn a tree full of yarn apples into £600 of support for a brilliant charity. Thank you to each and everyone of you who supported this Charity Yarnbomb.

And of course… this won’t be our last Yarnbomb.
